Earth Day Every Day
Buzz buzz..have you seen our bees?
Buzz buzz..have you seen our bees?
Located on the hotel’s exclusive seventh floor (ok, the roof), is a small slice of bee paradise. Back in 2020 we planted a bee-friendly rooftop garden with two hives of busy bees coming and going.
To ensure that our residents feel welcome at our ‘Air Bee & Bee’ in the clouds our resident beekeeper, Corin, worked closely with the charitable organisation ‘River of Flowers’ whose expert team advised on the best wildflowers and flowering trees to plant to bring sustenance to bees in urban spaces. This means that throughout the year, our tiny guests have quality food, rather than just a burst in early spring.
Hexagonal planters on our rooftop overflow with a sensational array of flora including hebes, heleniums, anemones, lavender, salvia, verbena, star jasmine and early and later flowering honeysuckles, to name but a few.
This year, in honour of Earth Day, our hotel entrance has been dressed up in dazzling sunflowers and honeycomb planters (made of eucalyptus wood).
On our Lobby Bar menu you’ll find the exquisite Bee-tini made with rooftop honey, Earl Grey infused gin and lemon – surely a classic!
Look out for a taste of homegrown honey in luscious cocktails including The Bee’s Knees and the One D.O.M, £1 from every cocktail is donated to ‘River of Flowers’.
Sustainability has always been a byword for One Aldwych, not a buzzword. Our hives and commitment to supporting the urban bee population is just one example of our responsibility efforts.
Over the last 25 years sustainability has been at our core. From our chlorine-free swimming pool, food sourcing policy and managing the usage and reduction of utilities, energy and water to our EVAC drainage system which uses 70% less water than conventional systems, we strive to lead and innovate with continuous improvements.
There’s always more to do but as we join this year’s Earth Day celebration we renew our pledge to play an active role in our community to nurture conscious and sustainable practises.
